Several months ago, SLUMA (Second Life Underwater and Marine Agency) divers found a strange stone embedded in submerged ruins in the Sea of Fables. Sonar readings detected an unknown metal object buried behind the glyph-covered stone, and faint radiation emanating from the same area. This discovery would lead to a universe of possibility….
Almost immediately, the discovery was classified, and excavation work began. They found a large ring of metal, with nine chevrons, and glyphs matching the cover-stone running along the inside of the ring. The ring looked like some sort of advanced technology, and it was moved to the ERC Spaceport for further testing.
After much testing, experts from the space authority discovered that, when powered, the glyphs would spin around the ring, and lock with one of the chevrons. At the same time, translation of the cover-stone revealed that this was a “Stargate”, a device able to open a wormhole to far-distant points in the galaxy. Soon, they made the first successful connection, “dialing” a sequence of glyphs to another gate.
Some of the first journeys through the Stargate were hazardous. An unarmed group of explorers were very nearly killed on a seemingly uninhabited world, when they were ambushed by large, predatory insects. Now, weapons are mandatory upon every expedition, and the East River Stargate Command has been formed to provide travelers with escort, and also to explore and create diplomatic relations with alien civilizations.
The Stargate Command Center is inside the ERC Spaceport. The entrance to the spaceport is here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Pippen/30/236/42 (entrance is hidden behind moss)
